PC Blue Menu The Worlds Best Meatless Seasoned Chicken Breasts: If you read my blog faithfully then you already know how much I adore this product. I am constantly amazed at the texture, the versatility and the price! You get 8 HUGE breasts in a box and when they sit next to a gardein meatless breast, the size difference is amazing. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE gardein; in fact these PC Meatless breasts are made by gardein but the price is about half and the quantity you get for that lower price is fabulous. My Guy and I love, love, love these. We use in the all the traditional ways an Omni may choose to use real chicken and it provides just one more choice for us…and we love choice. We do exercise caution of course because IT IS a processed food and don’t’ eat daily…but it’s another great addition to our menu! Thank you PC Blue Menu! Now what is going on with those Meatless Beef Strips??? They’re gone, gone, gone.
New Vegan Cupcakes on the Horizon and I have the inside scoop! While the website may be under construction, Fairy Cakes is on Facebook with tons of amazing pics! The Owner, Master Baker and Creative Drive behind this enterprise is a Vegan with a passion to bring tasty sweet-treats to the masses. I’ve heard it a million times, people think if it’s Vegan it must taste like “crap”. Nothing could be further from the truth. I’ve tasted several of Fairy Cakes creations and while I’m always partial to the icing, I will say the cupcakes themselves are moist and DELISH. Watch my bog for more info on when the store front will open and if you need more details, email Cera at fairycakes@live.caMakes for a quick and easy meal
*NEW REVIEW* Sunrise Soya Stir fry Tofu n’ Sauce – Sesame Ginger
OK, for those who read my blog regularly, you know I’m a) vegetarian and b) had a love affair with Pete’s Tofu that ended rather abruptly last year. I suddenly couldn’t find it and my world came crashing down, slowly. I loved the Sesame Ginger flavour (and all of them really) because the tofu had FLAVOUR and goodies IN IT, like sesame seeds! Yes…it wasn’t just this block of jiggly white stuff…I could slice it, dice it, nibble it plain or add it to my dishes. But then Sunrise Soya discontinued it and I really thoughtI was in trouble. Thankfully the folks at Sunrise caught one of my blog posts where I cried out my pain about the disappearance of Pete’s and they came to the rescue. I was sent coupons to try the NEW Stir Fry Tofu n’ Sauce and although excited by this prospect of a new tofu in my life, I redeemed my coupon somewhat reluctantly. My Guy and I had our new Pete’s the other night, in what else, but a stir fry…and the result was delicious. Now let me say however, it’s a COMPLETELY different product than the Pete’s To Go I loved….it’s not meant to be eaten from the package, but meant to help you make a complete (and balanced) meal by simply adding the tofu and the sauce to veggies. PRESTO! You have dinner. It’s that easy. The sauce was really tasty, no complaints there at all. I decided to try the ginger one first because it’s my favourite flavour and knew My Guy would be able to make that tofu sing….(side note: he really does make a great stir fry). So my goal is to try the rest of the flavours (thank you to Michelle at Sunrise!!) and I promise to blog about it. When it comes to tofu though, Sunrise IS my #1 choice. The firm style is a staple in our fridge…

While I’m not a huge supporter of processed foods for the majority of a Vegetarian diet, I do think the sausages over at Tofurkey have hit the nail right on the head for givings us Veg-People something we can REALLY GRILL AND SINK OUR TEETH INTO. I find these sausages a huge lifesaver for meals when I’m feeling rushed or out of energy even. Slice them up and throw in pasta, add to pizza’s or into a whole wheat bun piled high with your favorite toppings…

Since I’m already on the Tofurkey-Train here, I’ll promote another thing they make. The Hickory Slices. I bought some of these, made a Veg-Friendly aus jus (using the fabulous Vegetarian bouillon cubes from McCormicks!), put in the slices to simmer….fried up some onion, toasted some buns…and then put it all together. We dipped. We moaned in ecstasy. We loved. My Guy said it was the best “Beef” dip he’d ever had! I know it’s processed and high in sodium but if you need one, do it.

For dinner the other night, My Guy cooked us up some Gardein Dijon Chick’n Breasts. He found them at Superstore and thought it would make a satisfying meal; something different we could ‘sink our teeth into’. Upon opening the package I was amazed at how much like a chicken breast this product actually resembled! My Guy and I agree that as Veggies, we’re not looking for a substitute for meat necessarily, but rather something substantial we can dig into and that would provide a little variety to our meal plan. The package offers up a few ways to cook them and we opted to pan fry with a smidgen of olive oil for flavour. They come with a tasty sauce and My Guy cooked up some basmati rice and broccoli to round out the meal…THE VERDICT?Delicious. Very hearty and filling for one, but also just damned tasty all around. My taste-buds were singing! I would definitely eat these again and more of the Gardein products. The only negative in this whole thing? Price. A package of 2 breasts cost My Guy $5.49 plus taxes. That’s expensive compared to the All-Mighty-Tofu. **Pics of our meal to follow**
